Cascading is a term used when connecting a router to another router. This connection is done if you want to:. If you want to cascade a non-Linksys router to the main router, you need to call its manufacturer for support. This method is officially supported only by selected router models. For more information and instructions in setting your router as a wireless bridge, click here.

This type of cascading requires the main and the secondary routers to be on the same LAN IP segment to allow the computers and other devices to connect to both routers. To do this, you need to disable the secondary router's DHCP server. This configuration is recommended if you want to share files and resources within the network. For a video tutorial on this setup, cli ck here. This type of cascading requires the main router and the secondary router to have different IP segments.

This connection makes it easier to identify which router the computers and other devices in the network are connected to since they will have different LAN IP segments.

This is necessary to avoid conflict and connectivity issues in the local network if they have similar IP addresses.

Cascading your Linksys router to another router is one way of expanding your local network. I can connect to the Wifi, I can navigate to the Velop's administration page in a browser, but if I log in to my Linksys Cloud account and try and Add Existing System, I get this error when it tries to find the router:.

As far as I can tell, this means I can't administer the system fromt he app without leaving Bridge mode, and that means I can't add new Nodes to the system? Help is here. When the Velop is set to Bridge Mode, it will only act as an access point. In Bridge Mode, you will not be able to use parental controls, device prioritization, custom internal IP addresses, and other advanced features as well as adding nodes. For you to add nodes, you may have to reset the Velop and set it up as a router.

Your response doesn't make sense in context to the original question, which had to do with adding a new node to the exiting network. Why would the mode setting have anything to do with adding a node? Why does one have to break a working setup to add a new node? Does the Velop system support wired and wireless backhaul concurrently? I have a 4 node Velop system with the parent node in bridge mode, and 3 child nodes all using wired ethernet for backhaul.

I was so impressed with the speeds and performance, that I bought two more nodes. I'm coming from open-mesh, ubiquitous, and orbi. I've been trying for 3 hours to add 2 nodes wirelessly and it's not working.

The Linksys app keeps trying to add them and keeps saying "we are having trouble talking to your node. It's been the longest 4 and 6 minute stretches of my life! I didn't have this issue when I set up the parent node in bridge mode out of the box. Adding nodes wasn't an issue. Thinking back, all nodes were connected using wired backhaul from the very beginning.

For example my previous 6-node Happy New Year to you too! Yes, if you will be adding a Node yo your existing Velop System it is the same on how you set up the Parent Node. Here's what the backhaul looked like when I finally got the two new child nodes setup via wireless no wired backhaul :.

I guess the message is that the new Velop Wifi 6 nodes support mixed mode daisy-chaining with concurrent wired and wireless backhaul support. Just like the Orbi AC versions. Log In. Not a member?

And I love to just have something that works, not to mention being able to handle the most basic features in the Home from a App without being in the building.

It's missing the feature to be set up in Bridge mode, this is causing me to add two sets of Ethernet cables inside the house this is thick concrete so I must add wires between the floors. Please add the possibility to choose Bridge mode on Internett settings without the work arounds that just crashes the App. Go to Solution. During setup, can't you just set the first device up in access point configuration to achive the same results? I don't remember what it said exactly, but it asks you if you are connected directly to a modem, or to a router THEN a modem.

I thought that would put the system in Bridge Mode, but by reading A LOT of other posts on here, it doesn't appear to do that.

Access Point Mode on Linksys Wifi router

Sounds like there is no way to turn off DHCP and allow another device on the network to assign addresses. If not, then Velop isn't the right solution for me, and I have to return the devices I have instead This one is not yet fully supported. For customers that absolutely need to setup bridged mode we can help guide you through it using the Web UI, however there are some trade offs that occur when we set it up this way.

Overall performance of the unit will not be impacted, but there will be some changes in how the LEDs behave, and also with what you can access via the app in this configuration.
