This guide is going to be long. VERY long. If you have any questions, you can contact me on Discord, in game, or on Reddit. Twitch: www. Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy this guide. Scholar is a very flexible healing job that is capable of combining impressive healing output with significant personal DPS. One of the defining characteristics of the Scholar job is our faerie companions that join us in battle to help heal and support the party. The presence of our faerie pet greatly reduces the amount of direct healing we need to do.
Such incredible capability and versatility comes at a cost, though. Scholar is definitely NOT an easy job to master as the length of this guide can attest. Healers also have the opportunity to buff allies, debuff enemies, and deal a significant amount of damage themselves. Using the full range of your skills is vital if you want to become a GOOD player. A GREAT player, however, will use these skills at key times to maximize their effectiveness, increasing the damage output of the group and reducing incoming damage, allowing the Scholar to use more of their GCDs to dish out damage.
This guide will teach you all about the Scholar job, their spells and abilities, and how to use these effectively. Excessive healing is a suboptimal playstyle and should be avoided whenever possible. Efficient healing requires careful planning, extensive knowledge of the encounter specifically how much damage your party members will be taking and whencoordination with the rest of your group, and confident decision making on your part.
Skilled healers, on the other hand, will see raid members at half health and plan oGCD heals accordingly to make sure party members have sufficient HP for the next mechanic. Your job is to make sure that everyone in your party has enough HP and mitigation to survive the incoming damage.
An auto attack can always crit and murder your tank even when you thought things would be fine. This is an aggressive style that requires a lot of attention and might not be suitable for new healers until they get comfortable with healing. This means a lot of group healing. White Mages are probably a lot better at healing Tanks, while Scholars excel at group healing.
Leeches is better than the WHM Esuna, with a much shorter cast time. Sacred Soil is great for mitigating unavoidable damage in raids. PIE is still okay even if Scholars have access to Aetherflow.
VIT is always useful to take an extra hit or two. Succor and Succor II have extreme benefits from critical heals. In group healing situations, it is more likely that critical heals will not go to waste.
When choosing advanced job, the amount of role actions you may equip decrease to a total of 5 as compared to For a more detailed discussion, read through our Healer Role Actions Guide. As we learn more about each job, we will be linking useful guides in each Job page, as well as our community discussion on the Job.
Do most scholars actively control their pet, or let her roam on her own? I tend to control my pet. I prefer to micro manage the crap out of my pets. Macros tend to help that as well. Popping her buffs at opportune moments help more than her sporadic usage of them.
Super helpful. EVeryone seems to be mis-understanding him. Nice to see a gamer of age once in a while haha. I had the same thoughts when I started lol. So as an arcanist, you can put all your points in int and still heal like a champ.
Cleric stance is crossclassed anyway for dpsing. If I wanted to do some scholar healing too would it still be good? I mean it beats dropping the seals, but will it hurt your smn dps?
Cleric stance is only available to Scholars. Only stay active until more damage has been done, or B. Shaves damage off all the attacks made for 30 seconds. By Quetzalcoatl. You have done a very nice job with this thread, but I think there are some small changes that will make it better. For stratagems, I think it is important to note that grimoire bonus they affect, they also overwrite.
Ebullience works with Drain and Aspir. For, precasting armor Rubeus glove and pants would grant. We have only 2 cures, so I think being able to cast them quickly is as important as making them strong.
So, like helix spells, int is better than magic attack, even though it has such high damage. By Fenrir. By Ramuh. I don't understand Aife's ring for shattersoul. It have neither INT or Staff skill. Scholar guide New guide! Basically your goal to try not to have full Aetherflow before Broiling? When aetherflow is about to go off cooldown if I use all my stacks I use all the stacks with lustrate and then aetherflow again.
I still think concentrate is better for healing against Monk bursts because shielding is really good and sucks if you're interrupted. The Lustrate isn't actually healing, but I think the server doesn't register the Physick heal yet so you still gain the bonus from Lustrate. Good for building Faerie Gauge early in the match so you don't have to go on an almost suicide mission to build Faerie Gauge at the beginning.
You're going to have to use a stack at the beginning anyway so that your Broil can give you a stack, so this is a nice way to use that stack. If you die, very often someone else also dies, but if a DPS dies instead of you, then it's not as bad of a situation. Usually a melee will take it once they realise you're not going to take it. Sometimes a ranged will take it instead, which isn't ideal, but still better than you having it in my opinion. Worst case scenario a tank overstacks, but if a tank thinks overstacking is better than letting the medal return to the enemy, then that's too bad - don't take this risk if it's near the end of a match because you might not be able to intentionally let the tank die - so take the medal.
I've recently got the scholar job and I wonder if there's any tips I can use on how to play the job more effectively. Originally Posted by Tridus. Beyond that, try to get a feel for both you and your fairies healing throughput per cast. At the lower levels the fairy is a very strong co healer so don't be afraid to lean on them if you find yourself in a situation where you're needing to handle mechanics, cleanse stuff, throw a raise or even just want to dabble with DPSing.
On the subject of DPS, try to get a feel for getting value out of Bane. Doing this at the start across 3 or more mobs will contribute a very significant amount of damage across the run as a whole. If you want to pitch in, this is a great way to start. I just picked up SCH about a week ago myself, so I understand your concerns!
For me, it helps if I remind myself to not forget that my fairy does a lot more than just cast Embrace. You'll definitely want to control your fairy manually. Also, if I'm working with a group I'm unfamiliar with, I'm a bit more conservative with my Aetherflow stacks until I'm confident that people are avoiding AoEs, and the tank is solid with their cooldowns.
Lastly, anticipating big incoming damage allows us to preemptively shield with either Adlo or Succor - a much better use for those abilities than acting reactively. Reactive healing. I'm still a scrub SCH, so I'm sure others will chime in with some additional tips! Originally Posted by M0rty. Mostly being afraid to screw up and wipe my party.
